Pass The Book

I've been hanging onto this book for waaaaaayyyy too long. I think I was secretly hoping that Melissa would forget all about it and it could just live with me forever.

Alas, the time has come for me to pass it on.  If you love looking at artsy art journaling, lots of gorgeous inspiration and color and technique, then please leave a comment letting me know you are interested and I'll choose a winner on Sunday. Maybe. If I don't conveniently forget again.

Pass The Book & Mail Art

I have "The Writing Life" by Annie Dillard up for grabs from Melissa's Pass The Book - Year Two.  Dillard writes about what it is like to be a writer.
I struggled to finish the book but was glad I did.  The real gem is in the last 16 pages when she describes a stunt air show she watched.  Seriously, true poetry in motion!  If you'd like a chance to read this book, leave a comment. I'll draw a winner on Sunday and mail out Monday.

I'm participating in Ginger's Mail Art Exchange.  In addition to the person I was assigned, I chose three others from the list whom I had never sent Mail Art to.  These are the envelopes I sent out, before addresses were added:
I've heard from two of the four that their art was received, so hopefully by now everyone has it!  Mixed media and envelopes are such a happy pairing!

Pass The Book

As the original recipient of The Artist Unique in Pass the Book, year two, hosted by the fabulous Melissa, I'm ashamed to admit that after devouring this book within the first week after receipt, it ended up at the bottom of a pile on my end table. I've been hanging onto it well beyond when I should! Ooops...

Time for this wonderful book to find a new home. I want to give everyone a good chance to put in their bids... so leave a comment on this post and I'll draw a winner on Sunday (the 29th) and mail the book out next Monday (the 30th). Which gives me a little more time to enjoy it! Tee hee.

If you are curious about art journaling, love looking at beautiful art with heavily saturated colors, or are willing to play with some new techniques, then you'll love this book!

Pass The Book - last Chance!

If you haven't put your name in the hat for this wonderful book, go to this post and do so now!  I had so much fun playing with this book over the weekend.... I really do think I need my own copy!

Yes, I ended up making a dozen cards!  The three valentines cards were made with the most adorable set of stickers that I found in the yard sale room for 50 cents!  I apologize for the quality of these photos, but taking pictures in "the ballroom" of a hotel... well, I think it takes more than a point and shoot to make it work!
The best part of making these cards is that other than the cardstock base, this is all using up scraps!!!  These aren't nearly as elaborate as Jacky's or Karen's and my stamping skills could use some practice... okay, a LOT of practice... but I'm still thrilled with getting these together!

So Sian, thanks for being so patient with me passing on this book!

Pass The Book

Here I am, hanging my head in shame.  I have a Year One "Pass The Book" from Sian. I'm not even certain how long I've had it, but at least two months. My bad.  :(

I have skimmed through Card Maker's Sketch Book and it has tons of great ideas for cardmaking! I hope to put some of those ideas use it at the crop I am attending this coming weekend.

I promise I will be ready to Pass The Book by next Monday... which will give you plenty of time to put your name in the hat if this book would appeal to you or if you are planning on making lots of handmade cards this year - the sketches and the various ways they were used truly are quite yummy!

To be included in the drawing, just leave a comment on this post.  I'll draw a winner sometime next Monday, after I return from the crop.

Pass The Book

Two quick announcements here:

First:
Blogging for Bliss has left it's stay in Canada with Lee and is on its way to visit Jacky in the UK for the next round of the Blogging for Bliss Round Robin.  Jacky - be sure to let me know when it arrives!

Second:

I have just finished reading Inner Excavation.  I had this book on my Amazon wish list before learning that I had won a chance at it in Sian's Pass the Book.  Now that I've read the book, I'm seriously considering putting it back on my wish list!  Yes, it was that good.  Actually, I think this book would make an excellent eCourse, working through the "tasks" with a group of likeminded women would be awesome!

You might like this book if you:

  • enjoy photography
  • enjoy poetry
  • enjoy mixed media art
  • like learning more about yourself
  • are open to being led through a series of creative exercises
  • are inspired by the art and photography of others.
Okay, so if you want a chance at this book, leave me a comment and your name will go in the drawing, which I will do next Monday.  For those of you new to my blog, or new to the Pass the Book concept, you agree to pass the book on through YOUR blog after you have finished reading it!  Check Sian's blog for more details.

Pass The Book - the Winner

Here's the book that is up for grabs.  I had five comments indicating an interest in having the book.

I numbered them in the order they were posted:

1. Melissa
2. Jacky
3. Amy
4. Deb
5. Alexa

Then I went to random.org to find the winner.  Okay, I know - totally NOT creative.  But I want to get the winner posted.  And I need to leave for the gym.  Like NOW.  So here goes.  The winner is...

Number FIVE!!! Which is Alexa.  So Alexa, please send me an email with your full name and mailing address to scrapdreams at verizon dot net.  I'll get the book right out to you! :)

And now, I have a date with a treadmill and a few weight machines!

Happy Mail

One month to the day after Deb posted the lovely video showing that I won this round of "Pass the Book" guess what finally arrived in the mail?!!  Can you believe it has been a full month already?!!

I was so excited I started ripping the paper before I thought to snap a picture.  But I carefully put it back and got the photo...

and then tore in!

I ADORE the card Deb made me - which is now hanging on the bulletin board right above my computer and can't wait to delve into the book - but not right this moment. A few other things on my plate first!

Pass The Book

I have a book ready to be passed on - doing this one Sian style (click the link for all the info).

The book is:

Creative Time and Space by Rice Freeman-Zachery.  Photo from Amazon.com.

Creative Time and Space utilizes interviews with and photographs from fourteen artists who earn their living from their art.  It discusses from these artists' points of view how they each make time in their lives for their art, whether they schedule or free-flow their creative time, how they set up their studios, etc.

To be quite honest, I found the style of writing - small excerpts from interviews with each artist - to be a bit ho-hum and tedious, especially in the first five chapters which focus on various aspects of time and scheduling.  But the book redeemed itself in chapters 6 and 7 about "mental space" and "soul space" respectively.  The chapter on Soul Space discusses the importance of "play" to creativity and has a bit about keeping journals and how that practice can factor into creativity and art.  I'll be re-reading that while you all are putting in your bids to get the book!

The book's greatest strength is the photographs. The contributors make some awesome art pieces! Everything from beading and painting to sculpture, art quilting, and clothing design is included.

Who would like this book?  You would if:
  • you are inspired by the work of other artists - this book is chock FULL of beautiful photographs!
  • you are considering turning your artistic talents into a business and would like to hear how it has worked for other working artists.
  • you want ideas or insights into how others create TIME for expressing their creativity
  • you want ideas or insights into how others set up their creative SPACE - yes, studio photos are included.
If you would like a chance to have this book, please leave me a comment letting me know you want it! I will draw a name from all the commenters on the morning of Friday, March 11 and post the winner here on my blog.  All I ask if you want to play is that you agree to pass the book on when you are done! :)

So who wants it???
