I can totally understand your giving up and getting up. I have been know to do that too as I feel I may as well do something constructive rather than lay awake in bed.
Your moment so graphically captures that restless can't-get-comfy feeling as you listen to all the noises and notice the smallest feeling. You communicate the frustration so well ... (And did you get the photos sorted?). Hoping you get some decent sleep soon. It was lovely to see your link, and thank-you so much for joining in this month again :).
I hate when that happens. If I'm not asleep within 5 or 10 minutes I know I am in trouble and will be awake for quite some time. And trying to sleep when the room is warm is almost impossible.....to me. Like yours, my husband can sleep if it's 80 in the room!!!! Let's hope you go off to sleep quickly tonight ...
Oh I know this feeling so well. I frequently have to get up and do something with the thoughts 'I'll sleep later'. I saw a comment from you while visiting Bernice about an alternative to a Gelli plate. Before I caved in and bought one I put a large sheet of freezer paper on my desk. It was fine but you need something a little softer under your paper. Try a push pad, a little foam square or even a layer of towel, it gives the roller a soft surface to press into. The Gelli plate looks and feels exactly like an incredibly hard set jelly. Fortunately it doesn't smell good enough to take a nibble.
It seems I am in good company not being able to sleep on hot stuffy nights. Thankfully we don't get too many, but I have a feeling tonight will be one of them. It struck me that your moment was 11.11 and mine was 10.10 on the same day :o)
I don't usually have much trouble falling asleep when I first get to bed, but do sometimes find myself wide awake in the middle of the night. Like you, I occasionally decide that I might as well get up but not before trying one last strategy--imagining myself on a resort-style vacation. I tour the hotel room (decorated just how I like it of course), study the great view outside my window (postcard perfect), etc., and before too long I've usually lulled myself to sleep. Perhaps this will work for you sometime...
While I'm sorry you had trouble sleeping, I love the LO you created as a result. This is an experience I can relate to all too well. It never crossed my mind to document it, though - awesome idea!
Haha - this could have been written by me last night, Cheri. I can totally relate to a hubby that falls asleep quickly, and Whiskers using the litter box late at night. I'd also have to throw in Lucky's snoring in his little doggy bed. Cool layout too!

I too find hot humid nights difficult to sleep in....getting up is often the best option!

Sorry the sleep didn't come..but I'm thinking maybe your loss is our gain: there'll be some great pictures for us to look at soon then :)
What a great layout and you do a great job conveying the frustration of insomnia

Wonderful writing - I was feeling frustrated along with you. Hope you got the photos sorted and got back to sleep...
A great piece of writing. I hope that you managed to get some sleep eventually.

I can totally relate to this. Tracy, too, falls asleep almost instantly! I also find myself in this position around 3:00 am frequently!
