Story Telling Sunday - My Precious 2

When Sian first announced "My Precious" as the theme of Story Telling Sunday for this year, like many of you, I immediately thought of Gollum hiding away and cackling over his precious ring.  I knew that rings would definitely number among my "precious" items.  So today, here are two that are particularly meaningful to me.

Both of these rings belonged to my Mom. That alone would make them special. But each ring has a story of its own that makes it even more meaningful.

The one on the left is a mother's ring that my siblings and I bought Mom for a Mother's Day gift when I was in college. It was my idea and given the ages of my brothers and sisters, contributions varied greatly. As the oldest I paid the lion's share. The ring was ordered from the Sears Catalog.  Mom loved it and wore it a lot - so much so that when I inherited it the pearl stone (Deanna's birthstone) was missing and the gold prongs were worn down to nearly nothing. I replaced the pearl, had the ring repaired, and actually wore it for quite awhile. Until it stopped fitting. Hopefully I'll lose some weight and it will come back out of the jewelry box soon.

The ring on the right was a gift to Mom from her father when she graduated eighth grade. It is a beautiful aquamarine and I love the vintage setting. Mom loved this ring and wore it a lot. Deanna actually inherited this ring, but since we both love it, she has graciously allowed us to take turns having possession of it. Which is very sweet and generous of her, given that Mom left it to her. I wear this frequently and I love it. Someday I hope to own a ring of my own as beautiful as this one!

I too instantly thought of Gollum and his precious. Both rings are so pretty and you have told their significance to you beautifully.

I, too, have a ring that will show up on Storytelling Sunday some month. These are both beautiful, and the stories are as well.

These are beautiful rings Cheri. How wonderful that you have them (& that your sister shares)! I inherited all my Grandma's ruby rings because we shared that as a birthstone (& I was her favorite after all). Maybe I'll have to share about them for one Storytellling Sunday!

The rings are so pretty Cheri! A lovely story you have shared here and it makes me think of my mom's rings. She still has them all, but will give one to each of us girls, of course I am okay to wait :)

Oh I am sure lots of us share wonderful memories of jewelry passed on to us that first belonged to our Moms. Thanks for telling us about yours.

Aquamarine is my birth stone, and I also love that vintage setting. I have many pieces of heirloom jewelry, and I treasure each one.

They are both beautiful! Like Melissa I have inherited a ruby ring from my Grandma because it's our birthstone. I have another ring from her too, which might just make it onto my "Precious" list (and yes, I thought The Hobbit connection might help the idea stick in everybody's head!)

many thanks for showing us these beauties today Cheri. I hope you continue to enjoy them for many years to come

They are both beautiful rings, but I think I like the sibling ring best. My mother gave me her wedding rings before she died. I started wearing them after she died to feel a bit closer to her. I still wear them today.

Oh gosh these are both such pretty rings, and I love the story behind each of them. This past year, my grandma gave me HER GRANDMOTHER'S ring (so, my great-great-grandma) and I was so honored to have it. It even has her name (Lila) engraved on the inside. When my grandma gave it to me she said, "Don't put it on The Facebook because I don't want the other kids to be mad..." so I haven't even blogged about it because some of my cousins read my blog. For the record, I'm the oldest grandchild, so I think I deserve it. ;o)

Anyway! Cool story for this month's Storytelling Sunday!

Oh they are pretty - I always like Aquamarines but confess it's cause they are so close to Turquoise ;) The sharing made me smile - you are blessed with such a good relationship with your sister. So often you hear of pain and anger over who got what after a death :(
