First Friday Fitness - April Edition

I've spent another month in zig-zag mode weight wise - still struggling with that same two pounds, but in the last few days before weigh-in, managed to actually fall below the 170 mark!

Compared to last month's post, I'm down a whopping one pound. Not much progress for an entire month, but I'll have to take what I can get.

My routine with exercise has improved as well. I've managed up to twenty minutes each on both the treadmill and the stationary bike.  Although that has kind of fallen by the wayside over the last two weeks as I've been battling yet another head cold.  I will be so happy when Spring well and truly settles in and all this nonsense comes to an end!  And my ankle continues to bother me off and on.  It really is true that the older you get, the longer it takes to heal.

The most notable change from last month is the abdomen measurement - down a full two inches!  And I think I finally discovered the trick on that one.  I need to keep my sodium intake well below the daily allowance.  Which can be difficult when all of the processed and fast foods that make my life easier are so high in sodium! But now that I know, I am really trying to keep that on the "watch" list as well.

One little glitch in my big plans.  Remember how I told you last month that I wanted to weigh less than my hubby by my birthday?  Well, he went and got himself all stressed out with changes happening at work (that may or may not signal the end of his employment) and has lost five pounds over the last few weeks.  So not fair!  I gain weight when I am stressed.  My goal weight remains at 164 by my birthday, but given the very very very ridiculously maddeningly horrifyingly slow pace at which I am losing, I am not sure that is realistic anymore.  Won't stop me from trying though.  Just shy of eight weeks to go....

Two inches is fabulous! Thanks for the tip about the sodium. I should know that, but salt rather than sweets is my downfall. You're looking great! Don't be discouraged if the big day comes and the magic number isn't quite there--you'll make it. (And I agree, it's maddening how men can lose weight so much more quickly.) Here's hoping his employment situation improves quickly.

You're doing a great job, Cheri! Sodium is killer on me too. Everything I prepare or eat -- even pre-packaged -- must be low in sodium or I can tell a huge difference.

Keep up the good work! I wish I had your motivation. I have many of the same ailments as you, and know that losing weight would be a huge help, but also like you, I am a stress eater, and have been under unbelievable stress lately. You are doing great and staying motivated, and that's the important thing. And it IS making a difference!

One pound is HUGE... you lost four sticks of butter over a month... think of one stick of butter(fat) coming off your body each week. The numbers on the scale don't say nearly enough compared to thinking of those sticks of butter. Think of those 15 pounds you've lost in butter... how much butter was on your body that's not there anymore. You got rid of it! You ROCK Cheri!

Congratulations in your dedication to better health, Cheri! And doesn't that just figure about your husband dropping those pounds without even trying?!?! Ugh. My husband would be the same way.

I'm trying to drop a few pounds before my 50th and my brother's wedding in four weeks and it's not easy. For one thing, I haven't been baking stuff and I really miss that (the baking part itself). I just can't have that added temptation around me though.

So, your birthday must be around the first of June, eh? Mine is May 1st. :o)

I know I'm a bit late to the party Cheri, but I think you set a wonderful goal and it looks like you are heading in the right direction. I would prefer to measure inches than pounds anyway; its probably your fat turning to muscle anyway with exercising. Go you!
