Welcome October!

October came in wet and heavy. We had tremendous downpours overnight and woke to a wet and wild world.

The Perkiomen Creek runs right through Perkasie - nearly splitting the borough in two. During heavy rains, the creek tends to swell and outgrow its banks.  When it does, it renders several low-lying road impassable.  This storm followed true to what we have come to expect:

This area, from the tree line forward, is normally a bit of grass and some roadway.  All that creek water should be on the other side of the trees!  Because of areas like this, the girls had a two hour delay for the start of their school day (roads need to clear enough for the busses to run).

In normal conditions, the creek would run well below the scrub in the foreground - you would even see a bit of bank on either side.

Our first Picture Fall prompt asked us to capture a fallen leaf that stirs our sense of the season. As I was out photographing the flooding conditions, this leaf caught my attention, being the only colorful one among its browned tribemates.

Then, just for fun, I ran a sepia action at 80% opacity on the same photo and selectively recolored my little leaf. I thought it would cause the leaf to pop more, but honestly, I think I like it better surrounded by other fall colors. What do you think?

[Knock Wood] hoping our creek keeps inside it's banks - it's not terribly close to the house but the wet weather always makes me nervous. As for the photo ... I think the leaf pops more in it's natural surroundings.

I, too, like the leaf in its natural surroundings. I'm looking forward to seeing your Picture Fall photos.

I too think I prefer the photo in its natural surroundings make it stand out more x

I agree, it pops more and seems more special with the natural coloring.

That flooding is crazy. A whole town in my state is under water right now. So scary!

I thought it only rained like that round here lol. That is some serious water.

I love the natural photo, but it is interesting to see the other effect too.

I like the leaf in the natural setting, however the sepia photo looks nice too. Great job noticing that one colored leaf and capturing it for the day.

I also like the one that's natural. All the photos are great, but I particularly like the first one. Blew me away when I saw it. Keep up the great work!

I love the leaf both ways - such a fence sitter I am!
I loved your comment at my place yesterday .... I bet she wasn't having a tantrum like the young blonde over here right at the moment!

Whoa that's a lot of water overnight!

I like both photos but agree the first one shows it is the only yellow one. I was out & about catching up on prompts this AM. :)

Scary flooding. Hopefully the waterworks slow down in your area for the rest of the Fall.
Love the first leaf photo - the yellow just looks remarkable with the more subtle browns of nature fall.
Thanks for the blog love - it is so very appreicated, Cheri.
See you soon !

I prefer the 'before' photo too. Don't know why it should work better than the sepia one but it does. Sorry to hear you've had more than enough rainfall around there. It's almost like living over here!

We've been seeing a lot of rain lately, too - thankfully no flooding though, I hope it stays that way!

I'm with the majority, I prefer the first leaf pic :-)
