Let's Talk Weather (Zoom In Zoom Out #6)

This was the view out my front door on Monday. It snowed all day.

 Zooming In.

When you add new snow on top of existing snow, this is what you get! LOTS of snow. We did go out and shovel it all. Yesterday you could see our sidewalks and driveways, with mounds of snow piled on either side.

This was the view out my front door this morning. Looks like more snow on the sidewalk, right?

Nope! It's all ICE. The trees are bowed down, kissing the ground from the weight of it. From a distance all the branches are an ethereal white, ghost trees. When the wind blows the ice crackles and pops and groans as the branches try to sway. Little bits of ice break off and fall, tinkling, to the ground. The snow is blanketed in a sheet of ice, making a crusty top to this snow pie world.

After an hour outside shoveling heavy slushy ice off the sidewalks (and not even finishing the driveway) I'm exhausted and my shoulders, back, and biceps ache. On the upside, I needed the workout! I kept telling myself, this is what a fit person can do. And I want to be a fit person. Fake it til you make it, right?

So now I'm sitting here in my warm home, at the computer, grateful for this day, grateful to be alive. Lots of my co-workers are without power. One has a leaky roof. Another had a tree come down across both his cars. So I'm definitely feeling like one of the lucky ones today.

I am  linking up with  Helena's Zoom In Zoom Out meme.  Click on the link to see what other people are photographing this week!

I laughed as soon as I clicked on this because I had just finished posting my pair for today. Guess what the subject was? SNOW! I've had quite enough, already, and it's only the beginning of February! The ice under the snow here is creating pretty slippery conditions. Love your last photo!

Ice- yuck. I am glad I live where I do even if we get -40 degree weather, because it is only very rarely that we get ice instead of snow!
Great photos- especially the last one!

Shoveling snow definitely is a hard workout! It counts for two days!
The ice on the branches looks gorgeous - I remember a few very cold winters in Germany when we had that. It looked so beautiful when the sun came out and the trees were sparkling.

I even have a picture of snow! I love your comment about being able to do something because you are fit - that's awesome!

It's so very pretty, although I know the reality sometimes isn't quite so nice. here it has been so dark we are longing for a bit of snow to brighten things up. Just a little would be nice

Ice makes for very pretty photo ops, but unless it melts away quickly can cause havoc! Hope your power stays on and you stay warm!

As I've been hearing about all the record breaking snows around the country, I've been wishing/praying for just one "good one" here. But after your post, it reminds me of how we are totally unprepared for it. Not only is our driveway ridiculously long, we don't even own a snow shovel! Here's to sitting in front of the fire with your computer! You deserve it!

Wow that is a lot of snow. We've had snow but nothing like that.
Poor bushes and trees and poor you for having to shovel all that stuff. Great shots though.

the icy twigs are fabulous. It really is so beautiful to see all of that snow...from inside. ;)

I know it's rough with such harsh and unpredictable weather (I grew up in the Chicago area), but I have to say that it has made for some wonderful photos!

Gorgeous shots! I know shoveling is a pain (literally!), but snow and ice are so beautiful.

Gorgeous photo and attitude - doing what a fit person can do is such a good idea.

Wow - that's a lot of snow. I've seen several zoom in/zoom out photos of weather this week . . . maybe if we get the expected snow this afternoon I'll remember to get some of my own photos.
