My First Artist Date

Julia Cameron, author of The Artist's Way, advocates taking yourself on weekly "artist's dates" to help fuel your creativity.  I've been doing a great job writing morning pages, but have been balking at the idea of taking myself on a date.  But today...

was a gorgeous day...
...so I laced up my walking shoes and took myself out for a Photo Walk.

I enjoyed blue skies and 50 degree temps - so NOT like January!

I caught a beautiful shot of the American flag in all its glory.

On the way to visit my favorite covered bridge, I picked up trash along the path.  I love leaving a place ever so slightly better off than I found it!

I thought this particular shot looked really cool with Pioneer Woman's sepia action followed by a bit of erasing to bring back the red... (thanks for the idea Amy!)

And then there was this really moody shot of a big old tree along the path.

I went home via a short cut through the grocery store and treated myself to this very colorful salad!

40 minutes of fresh air and exercise, some great shots, and a healthy lunch. I'd say that was a pretty good date!

That looks like such a lovely way to spend part of your day - your photos are lovely.
I think some of these would look great treated to a little RadLab ... I am wondering how often they let you trial them? They are a lot better than other freebies I have to say, but I am not sure I can justify their price versus my usage of them in the long run.

Good for you, Cheri! Your photos are lovely and your post sounds like you are happy and refreshed. It just so happens that I've planned an outting for myself tomorrow as well. I bought a discounted ticket on Groupon for our local botanical gardens. The weather has been gorgeous here too.

The flag and the covered bridge are especially beautiful Cheri. Very iconic images, both of them, and very useful pictures to have in your library

I read The Artist's Way, although I didn't follow along with the process. I think the idea of an Artist Date is wonderful . . . just might need to plan one of those for myself. It's time I took the new camera out on a date, I think.

Super photos - I really like what you did with the bridge one. I really must learn how to do this!

Natalie Goldberg suggests taking yourself on dates to spark writing, too. It's been such a long time since I've done that... your date looks so great I want to take myself on one!
