Memorandum Monday - a post without a photo

I did have something "new" happen to me over the weekend. But it wasn't pleasant.  You'll be glad there are no photos.

I was driving down Route 33 headed to Saylorsburg - Jay and I were on our way to one of our favorite flea markets. Less than a mile from the exit, I saw a flash of grey and heard a "thwack" against my windshield (at 60 miles per hour). The sound literally made me feel sick in the pit of my stomach.  And then I just started sobbing.  I don't know what kind of bird it was. There was nothing I could have done to avoid it, as it flew right into the windshield.  After nearly 40 years of driving with a clean record, killing nothing more than the bugs that splatter against the windshield on the highway, I experienced my first nature fatality at my own hands.

As we arrived at the flea market and parked, I was still crying. I hope nothing like that ever happens again because it honestly felt awful.

On a happier note, we had a great flea marketing weekend and I hope to catch you all up soon on what is happening with The Shop these days!

Oh, I know that feeling. It's a sad fact of life where we live. Thankfully it's only happened to me twice (with birds on both occasions) as it's so distressing. My husband killed a deer while driving my car about 5 years ago. There was nothing he could do. It leapt out of the hedge and onto the bonnet. I would have been devastated.

Just read back to your last happy post. Congratulations to your girls x

It does feel awful. I hit a baby rabbit years ago and I've never forgotten the horrible feeling x

How awful! I don't remember any incidents when I was driving, but I was a passenger years ago when my friend hit a turtle that neither of us saw. She still talks about how terrible it was.

Poor you!....it does feel awful when something like that happens...at the moment we seem to be having lots of baby birds being disorientated in our garden and even though I've tried my best to put them somewhere safe in the hope they might find their way again, I've had two die - so distressing! Xx

Oh I know how you are feeling. What a scare for you. I wonder why it flew right into your car windshield/screen - you would think that their built in radar would be better. Thankfully you were not hurt. Sending you lots of positive energy as we both release our nature mishaps of the week.

Oh my goodness, what a horrible experience :(. Hoping the memory of it is drifting away now. There is a chance it might just have been stunned, and then recovered - I've seen that happen ...Crossing fingers.

Oh dear, that would leave one feeling a bit sick. Glad you had the flea market to take your mind off it a bit.

Oh Cheri, I know that feeling - it's awful. I'm so sorry that this happened to you. There really is nothing what we can do to avoid something like this. I would have been crying as well.
